Answer: The antenna is fiberglass with a metal base. Grounding the steel pole provides a good ground plane. However, it can still work without a ground, but the performance may be affected. -

Would this work on my old pro2005 scanner to receive transmitted signals from pilots?
Answer: No, it is for receiving data transmission at a much higher frequency. For civil aircraft voice signals, you would need an antenna for 118 to 137 Mhz, and for military voice signals, it's 225 to 400Mhz. -

Bought to use with Raspberry Pi & Flightradar24 but seeing no improvement over the tiny aerial the stick came with, do I need to change any settings?
Answer: Increasing the height position of the aerial and using a ADS-B 1090MHz Filtered Preamplifier may improve the range. -

Answer: The brackets will fit poles larger and smaller than 30mm.
