This First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector is easy to use and program, with the added feature of identifying where the alarm is sounding from. Some customers have reported that it goes off at random and runs tests at 3 am. It can operate as a portable detector and takes standard AA batteries (not rechargeable). The unit does not contain any lights that would disturb sleep. Some customers found it very loud and could hear it throughout the house. The previous First Alert model fitted into the same old base, but there is no guarantee it will fit all existing rings. Some customers ordered it again or ordered different brands as they go off randomly at all hours.
